Rocky Mountain National Park Weather Forecast

Storm-free skies and blustery winds characterized the weather across the high country of RMNP for most of the past week.

Week in Review

The warmest temperatures occurred last Friday through Sunday (9/3 – 9/5), but increasing winds through the period ahead of an approaching wave in the westerlies made it feel a bit chilled at times, particularly in the shade.

The rawest day of the week occurred on Monday 9/6, when the wave passage produced high winds combined with temperature in the 30’s and 40’s near treeline.

Some thunderstorm activity and precipitation returned during the afternoon on Wenesday 9/8, as a batch up subtropical moisture was transported over CO ahead of the next westerly wave moving out of CA.

The Upcoming Weekend

An instant replay of the last Sunday/Monday wind event will occur once again this Thursday and Friday, as another westerly wave ejects northeastward across CO.

Southwesterlies will setup and increase in strength during the day on Thursday 9/9. The wind direction will turn to westerly overnight into Friday with the passage of the wave axis.

When it does, strong down-sloping winds will amplify east of the Divide. Gusts again in the 40-50 mph range are forecast above treeline. Cloudiness and cooler temperatures are also expected over the high country during this time, but with little to no precipitation.

Temperatures will rebound by Saturday 9/11 and will remain in the 50’s F for daytime highs through Tuesday 9/14. Chilled mornings will result from clear and dry overnight skies.

No thunderstorms or precipitation is expected during this period. Winds should also slacken, particularly on Sunday through Tuesday. The next chance for unsettled weather returns on Wednesday 9/15, as another batch of subtropical moisture moves northward ahead of the next westerly wave.
