Rocky Mountain National Park Weather Forecast

Week in Review

A stormy weather pattern along the US west coast dumped 5-8 new inches of snow water equivalent (SWE) across the Sierra of CA.  A series of these storms weakened as they ejected northeastward across CO and produced a total of 1.5 inches of SWE across RMNP.

Moderate southwesterly winds persisted during most of the week, with minimal mountain-wave enhancement.  Strong lee-side winds returned on 3/22, when stable northwesterly flow developed behind the most recent cold front.

The Upcoming Week

The recent unsettled weather pattern will continue into the next week.  However, storm energy is forecast to track across CO with a more westerly orientation and with a higher frequency.  This will increase the probabilities for higher amounts of accumulating snowfall across the Park. The highest single day snowfall totals are most likely to occur on Monday (3/29).

Stronger mountain-wave enhanced west-northwesterly winds are forecast following storm passage on late Thursday (3/25), Saturday morning (3/26), and Sunday (3/27).
