Rocky Mountain National Park Weather Forecast

The game of dodging thunderstorms played out over the past week across the hills of RMNP.

Week in Review

...

On July 30, a punch of drier air from the eastern Pacific limited moist convective processes to just harmless, shallow cumulus clouds.

Days like these, where integrated water vapor values are near or below 0.7 cm at 12 kft, are the ones to target in the forecast for planning long and exposed outings across the Park.

After the brief scour, subtropical moisture returned to fuel, at times, quite energetic and wet thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening hours.

The Upcoming Week

Another drying trend is on the way, as westerly wave energy is forecast to develop along the west coast and transport drier mid-latitude air across the central Rockies. Ro

Dry enough air will begin to transition in by mid Friday (8/5) to effectively deplete deep convection.  The weekend will be one to ‘get after it’, with even drier air in place (< 0.7 cm of integrated water vapor) and no thunderstorms in the forecast.

The t-storm-free pattern is forecast to persist into Monday and Tuesday (8/8-9).  There is a hint of moisture creeping back in from the eastern plains by Wednesday and Thursday, which would increase the chance for deep convection along the eastern slopes of the Park.
