A rock climber was injured on Saturday, March 6th in a fall while leading an established, bolted route in a closed area above Boulder Falls. Boulder County Sheriff's Officers stated that the group of three climbers passed through a closed-off area of the Canyon to get to the climb where the accident occurred. At least one of the climbing team of three friends and family were ticketed for trespassing by a Boulder County Sheriff's Officer.
The injured climber, Tim Forbes was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and he apparently sustained a major laceration to his head and additionally injured his shoulder. In the video below, he appears to be very alert following the accident. He was transported by ambulance to Boulder Community Hospital.
A hiker from a seperate group who watched the climber's fall flagged down a National Forest Service employee who contacted the Sheriff's Office and the rescue operation began immediately.
A large group of rescuers, including the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, used a litter secured with belays and a spectacular tyrolean traverse above the raging whitewater of Boulder Creek, still in winter conditions. Check it out:
Interesting rescue footage from nearby the falls and what looks like a mostly happy ending for all involved.
