Raptor Closures
The following formations are closed
March 1 through July 31, 2009
Each year, Rocky MountainNational Park initiates temporary closures in certain areas of the park to allow wildlife managers to monitor birds of prey and ensure that these raptors will be undisturbed during the breeding and nesting seasons. Closure notices will also be posted at key access points in the national park. Additional closures may be necessary during the spring and summer.
We will notify you of any subsequent temporary closures.
Closure Areas Include:
Alligator Rock
Alligator Rock closure includes the named rock formations and the areas extending 200 yards surrounding the base of the formation.
Thunder Buttress – The Parish
These closures include the named rock formations and the areas extending 100 yards surrounding the base of the formation.
Areas not listed above are presumed to be open. These closures will be lifted or extended as conditions dictate. Check nps.gov/romo for more information about raptor protection and closure updates.
When necessary park rangers will issue citations to persons violating the terms of this closure under the authority of 16 USC 3, 36 CFR 1.5 (f)
Closures include all climbing routes, outcroppings, cliffs, faces, ascent and decent routes and climbers’ access trails to the formation.
The Twin Owls are open and ready for climbing- Steve Johnson cranks through the crux of Condones (12b).
