On Thursday the 28th of April, 2011 Swiss alpinist and mountain guide Erhard Loretan died in a climbing accident while ascending GrĂ¼nhorn with a client in the Bernese Alps. Loretan was one of the greatest alpinists of the modern era, the third person to have climbed all fourteen 8000m peaks and the second to do so (behind Reinhold Messner) without supplementary oxygen.
From the ascent of all the 8000m peaks to being a Mountain Guide, a great interpreter of world mountaineering: Erhard Loretan.
