  • Wild Basin   ( 1 Article )

    Hidden Falls

Wild Basin is the southern-most entrance into Rocky Mountain National Park and lies below the south slopes of Mount Meeker, the park's second highest peak.  The mountains that lie at the headwaters of the north fork of the St. Vrain River which courses through this wide-open valley, are some of the least visited peaks in the high country of this well-visited park.

  • Otis Peak   ( 1 Article )

    The Crypt

Otis Peak defines the north side of the Loch Vale and the south side of the Chaos Canyon and although little climbing is documented on its flanks, there are opportunities for routes of all types to make for an interesting aand long adventure.

  • Tyndall Gorge   ( 1 Article )

    The Squid

The Tyndall Gorge is a dramatic glacier carved valley which contains some of the best alpine rock climbing and ski-mountaineering in the park along with a few of the classic ice routes such as The Squid and Hallett's Chimne and all just a few miles from the Bear lake trailhead.

East Face of Notchtop -   New BeginningsJaws

Odessa Gorge extends from the Ptarmagin Glacier past the Notchtop Spire all the way down to the bottom of Fern Canyon and the open meadows of Moraine Park. • Mt. Meeker   ( 1 Article )

    Dreamweaver

Mt. Meeker at 13,911' is the left-hand guardian to the Longs Peak Cirque and it's north face is a revered wall in Rocky Mountain National Park which contains the classic Dreamweaver Couloir, Flying Buttress, and Dark Star (WI4 M3) routes.

  • Glacier Gorge   ( 3 Articles )

West GullyBlack Lake Slabs - Jewel Lake

The Glacier Gorge is the only north-draining valley in Rocky Mountain National Park and perhaps the most spectacular.  In the wintertime, this gorge is filled with ice from Thatchtop Mountain up to it's headwaters at McHenry's and Pagoda Peaks and it can be a very cold place in these conditions.

  • Mt. Lady Washington   ( 1 Article )

    Martha

Mt. Lady Washington seen from the Boulderfield is but a bump compared to nearby Longs.  Yet from Chasm Lake, it's south face contains the classic mixed route Martha which can be one of the best mid-winter alpine routes in RMNP.  Martha takes a straight line through a Patagonia-like cleft splitting this sheer imposing swath of golden granite.

  • Thatchtop   ( 3 Articles )

All Mixed UpLoch Vale - Organ Pipes

Thatchtop Mountain is one of the best venues in Rocky Mountain National Park for multi-pitch ice and consistent cragging.  Flowing out of it's east and north faces are many seeps and springs which compose such classics as "All Mixed Up" (III WI4-), the "Loch Vale Gorge" with it's "Mixed Emotions" (WI5), and testpieces such as Necrophilia and Deep Freeze (WI5+).

  • Longs Winter   ( 3 Articles )

Smear of FearColumbine Falls - The Flying Dutchman

Longs Peak, at 14,225' is the highest and coldest mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park. For much of the year there is ice on the east face from Field's Chimney, to Alexander's and on the Smear of Fear and Wrecking Ball; the east face of Longs is where it's at when it comes to big adventure in a big mountain setting.
