The
AMGA Rock Guide Course is the foundational course taught through the
AMGA in the fundamentals of guiding on rock.
Techniques
taught and
practiced on multi-pitch routes up to Grade III include: Risk
management management, Anchoring and Belaying for Guiding,
Belay
stance and rope management, Multi-pitch guiding techniques,
Rescue techniques, Short-roping, Climbing Pedagogy, Leave No Trace
techniques
and many other important guiding techniques and systems.
With
just three guide trainees and instructor Eli Helmuth, we were able to
get a considerable amount
done on this 10-day intensive training that was offered through Climbing Life Guides.

Eli has been teaching these AMGA Rock Guide Courses for more than a
decade and most of the candidates he has trained
have gone on to become Certified Rock or Alpine Guides by the AMGA.
Unfortunately, the privatized version of this AMGA course that we did
this September will not be available in 2010 due to a decision by the
AMGA to offer these courses ONLY through the AMGA until potential
issues in this program can be addressed. Consult the AMGA
website here for information on the entire course and exam schedule for
2010.
Although Eli will not be teaching the RGC course in 2010, he will be
offering numerous dates for the AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI)
course and exam (for certification). Please consult our AMGA
training schedule here for more information on this three day course
and two day exam.

of the First Flatiron above Boulder, Colorado on what was a snowy day
in the nearby peaks. We climbed in an intermittent mist that resembled a great day in the Peak District of the UK.
