The Continental Divide of RMNP typically receives the first snows of winter by late August and so this first coating is perhaps a bit behind schedule and it was mostly melted off by noon that same day. Snowline from this one-day storm was at approx. 11,700' and the top of Flattop Mtn. showed a good covering as did Mt. Ypsilon to the north.
The addition of this new moisture, combined with cooler than usual temp.'s this summer, along with a wet autumn thus far could give us one of the better ice seasons that we've had in years. Stay tuned as we start sharpening the tools, preparing for the potential ice smears and drips that
