The Squid is one of the best water ice routes in Rocky Mountain National Park and in the winter of 07/08 it was "in-shape" for more than two months which was a record this last decade.  Often this still test-piece route doesn't come in at all over a long winter or rarely for a day or two each season.

There is some ice out there in the high country of RMNP at the moment but the lower elevation areas are still forming and it is in everyone's best interest (socialism!) that we leave areas like the Loch Vale, Hidden Falls, and the Squid alone until the New Year holidays so that these routes can completely form for the year.  Early climbing tends to knock down these flows before they have grown enough to survive on their own.  Avoid ice infanticide and instead enjoy the almost 80F weather in Eldorado or Boulder Canyons and the 70F weather up here in Estes Park that makes Lumpy Ridge perfect for climbing this time of year.
