Bowie Helm pausing at the base of the Tyndall Glacier after a couple of laps skiing down this 40 degree headwall.
We found a mix of sustrugi hardpack and some creamy powder in the shade on this calm and sunny pre-storm day in the Tyndall Gorge of Rocky Mountain National Park. Avalanche conditions on the glacier and in the valley below were MODERATE before the foot of snow that fell on March 19th that would have raised the danger rating to CONSIDERABLE.
