Skinning up the Dragontail Apron on the south face of Flattop Mountain after the storm.

Here we're heading up the left-most of the Dragontail Couloirs (the Dead Elk) that sits on the south aspect of Flattop Mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park. This striking feature starts in the low 30 degree angle range and reaches a peak angle of 36 degrees in its middle section. Our posse found excellent powder conditions and very good stability on these slopes on this absolutely perfect day in mid- January. And yes, there is still a dead elk carcas in the upper reaches of this snowy gash.
