The "Avalanche Guys" from Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center in Montana put together this video to help educate new backcountry users in the Bridger Bowl Ski Area due to a new gate accessing the backcountry from the area. The narration comes from the esteemed mountain guide and avalanche forecaster Doug Chabot of the GNFAC and the information he reviews is important no matter where you are travelling on snow covered terrain.
I highly recommend following their video blog here, as the GNFAC crew does a great job of highlighting the key issues for backcountry travelers with on location pits and snowpack analysis that is applicable to much of what we encounter in the northern Rockies of Colorado.
I received this phone call last may from this young talented skier, Vivian, who asked me to film his project of linking as many ski routes as possible on the same day in the North face of the Aguille du Midi. We ended up skiing them all together and he was patient enough to wait for me filming most key places. Here is a short documentary about this unique day.
